Eldridge Cleaver (1935-1998) was writer, radical intellectual, Black liberation theorist and Minister of Information of the Black Panther Party(1967-1971). Cleaver is the author of SOUL ON ICE and was in international exile(CUBA, ALGERIA & FRANCE) after participating in a shootout on 4/6/1968 against the police several days after the murder of Martin Luther King Jr. on 4/4/1968. Eldridge Cleaver was a leading exponent of Black liberation theory until his return to the U.S. from exile in 1975 when he surrendered to the FBI, served time in prison and subsequently became a born again Christian and renounced his radical past.

This excerpt was selected by the BROTHERWISE DISPATCH(brotherwise.com) editorial committee and was filmed during Cleaver's exile in Algeria when he placed fellow exile Timothy Leary on revolutionary house arrest for promoting drug use as a form of social liberation.
