I love this. I was a huge Pirates fan as a 16-year-old in 1975. The Phils were always the big rivals. I listened to Kalas, Ashburn and Saam, as well as my Bob Prince and Nellie King. Free agency ruined small-market teams like the Pirates. I quit going in the early 90s, because after that point, the best players always went to the highest bidder. The Pirates are now a farm team supplying good players for other teams. But I loved baseball then. Thanks for bringing 1975 back again!

Wow, this is just days after I was born. Pretty cool to see the styles people were wearing and tv alone from the actual week of my birth.
Thanks for posting this.

That was a great announcing crew; By Saam, Ashburn and Harry Calas.

Great stuff. This one is particularly interesting to me as being a four year old in1975 this was in essence the last year that occurred prior to the Phillies entering my consciousness. I have vague remembrances of the 1976 team and my earliest memories of the team involve my family agonizing over Greg Luzinski and Gary Maddox mishandling those fly balls against the Dodgers in the 1977 and 78 playoffs respectively. Harry's voice here had a strange sense of optimism about the coming 76 season. hmm

I was in grade school in the 70's. Hearing Harry's voice on the radio and tv meant summer vacation was right around the corner... great memories! Very sad that is he gone... he died WAY too young!

I know for a fact that AMC sponsored the Phillies in 1975, I was hoping to see AMC mentioned with the other sponsors towards the end of this clip, or maybe see an AMC commercial as part of the clip.... I have a "Phillies '75" bumper sticker with the AMC logo and the theme "Set the Pace" written on it... cool clip

I love this. Just love it.
where on earth did you get these old channel 17 clips Rollo?...did they even have VCR's in 1975? Regardless, thank you for your posts. They're great!

As I mentioned in the blurb, this clip (and the other one from 1980) were on YouTube previously. I wish I remembered who uploaded them first so I can give credit. I don't think that person is on YT anymore.
BTW, I'm not from the Delaware Valley, and I wasn't even born in 1975. I'm just a baseball fan who understands the connection a team and its fans have to their announcers.

I am the original uploader of the video - "DCPlus" - now known as "Retrodan5". I also uploaded game 5 of the '80 NLCS from Oct 12,1980. I was kicked out of You Tube for these clips and any thing else MLB and NFL related, but somehow they continue to exist under other accounts. Doesn't seem right.

I had a similar issue with some NY Mets stuff I once uploaded, and MLB claimed copyright and the clips got pulled. The two you put up shouldn't ba problems because there is no game action on either.
I'll give you the proper credit. However, if you wish for both of the clips to be taken down, just let me know. Otherwise, I'll keep them up.
