Excellent video Sir! I have watched close to 50 or so videos on the subject, and your level of detail and technique is very appreciated. Good job, and thank you.

@cubsarethebested hardware stones are generally oil stones made for mower blades and generally shitty for any delicate work...most dont even say what their grit is...do yourself a favor and get a brand name japanese waterstone like a shapton-norton-king-chosera etc. and get a 4000 and an 8000 at a minimum...after all, this is a razor going on your face you are sharpening so dont skimp or you will look like scarface.....just my humble opinion, good luck and hope this helps.

hey i have a question what if ur not using a 4000 or 8000 grit stones what if ur using a standard ace hard ware store horning stone?

Nice observation

As a machinist apprentice i'd say your pyramid works well because your 4000g strokes are removing the curl that would form on the blade edge

Great video Lynn, very helpful.

Good video
just an observation....you may get even better results with 2 towels or at least 2 different areas on the towel for each grit to lay on to avoid cross contamination of grits...flipping the 8000 grit side onto an area where an 4000 grit side was laying can cause 4000 grit particulate to embed on the 8000 grit side...just an observation from a fellow sharpening enthusiast.

How is it that you get a decently even blade when you draw the blade across in this way, such that the toe of the blade always contacts the hone but the heel leaves during the stroke? It seems to me the blade would get progressively sharper from heel to toe.
