(SIOUX CITY, IA) The City Council will discuss a plan on Monday to enter an agreement with Sergeant Bluff to house stray animals at a flat rate.
That money will hopefully help pay for finishing construction at the center and contribute to the overall budget. Officials also say the plan will help ensure costs are covered regardless of whether citizens show up to recover their animals.
"The advantage to the city is that the animals, the strays we pick up in Sioux City, if no one reclaims them, we don't recover anything. These two 28--E agreements, this one and then the one in the future, we will be paid regardless because the jurisdiction is paying us, and not the individual citizen," says Marty Riley, of the Sioux City Police Department.
Under the proposal, Sioux City will have the right to refuse more animals if they reach capacity. Another plan is underway to make a similar agreement with Woodbury County for calls outside the city.
