This demonstrates a tragic loss of opportunity. If he had been heeded maybe we could have avoided what we are now facing with the phenomenon of Peak OIl and the end of Infinite Growth.

1977 may have marked the last time that a President of the Untied States talked truthfully to the citizens of the US and exhorted them to sacrifice rather than unbridled consumption.

Truthfully, as in when the Malthusians were proclaiming that we were in imminent doom of running out of everything? I guess our aspirations must be crushed and our spirits sat upon by the "wisdom" of their "guidance".

Watching this address to the nation makes me think Jimmy Carter never learned deceit or deception, and if he did, he didn't know how to use them.

Read Limits of Power by Andrew Bacevitch which further reconfirms how 'spot on' Carter was. America needs to realize that 'one size fits all' diplomacy is a disaster.
