What do you mean by clipped? Clipped is when the brightest and/or darkest parts of the image are too bright and/or dark so as to lose visible detail. This is controlled through proper exposure and tonal settings in the camera. I use a very flat, low contrast setup with my DSLR which gives me gobs of detail, good dymanic range, and plenty of flexibility in post.

One other thing..... Video Cameras have the ability to zoom without having to use the barrel control - ie via battery operated remote or with a plug-in cable controller. This is handy in some circumstances and minimises any camera shake when on a tripod.
dSLRs are unable (from my knowledge) to zoom in this way. The only option is to use the barrel control to zoom in and out.
May be a Pro or Con - depending on what you are filming...

Also when it comes to grading, DSLR footage is very clipped so you won't have much to play with unlike video camera footage.

I have always wondered why people choose to shoot videos and short films with a DSLR instead of a video camera. I personally prefer to use a video camera to shoot videos. But after watching this video now I understand why.
