The Bata a Caixa is a small tap-box used in Brazilian and other Latin music and "spirit ceremonies". It can be played with the fingertips, nails, a striker or by rubbing the various surfaces and/or edges, each of which, in the hands of a skilled percussionist, is capable of rendering a myriad of cool sounds!
What makes these Bata a Caixas unique is that they can be plugged into an amp or PA system, thus giving the innovative percussionist that many more sonic possibilities to choose from...the percussionist in my trio uses a few common guitar FX pedals to create some amazing grooves (the digital delay, wah-wah and flanger are particularily useful!)...really, the only limitation is your imagination!
