@bluefen You already denigrated him by using that term. Whenever he's asked he'll always acknowledge his influences. He's even said that he considers his job to be to bring back the UK blues sound. So, yeah, he sounds like the UK blues sound. Big surprise.

@Simes Without wanting to be part of a petty exchange or denigrating a high class musician like Joe.. a) I don't rate him as a 'great' guitarist and b) he is promoting a 'signature' guitar sound that is a direct emulation of someone else. He's not the only guitarist to copy Clapton's 60's overdriven Marshall stack/Gibson with the treble-wound- back tone....but a minor reference to the origin of his tone seems a little inadequate...anyway..take it easy :)

@bluefen All great guitarists acknowledge their influences. He even says part of his tone was influenced by Clapton *in this video*. Please don't use terms like "rip off" inappropriately.

I'm no hater, I think Joe is a genuine individual and obviously a masterly player but..his tone is a rip off of Clapton on the live Wheels of Fire..Crossroads, Spoonful etc....as well as some of that technique.....just sayin

I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I've never heard a more clear rip-off of Eric in my life. Not just a minor influence, but an outright takeover.
