This small round Ansonia 8 day mantel clock movement is 3 1/4 inches in diameter. It has a strip recoil escapement. This movie shows the escapement close-up with the mainspring run down 8 turns and then fully wound. Then a view of the entire movement and its pendulum is shown.

  • I think the verge needs a bushing.

  • @theclockladyLI Yes, it does, please see the comment above!

  • Hmmm, seems to be running really well, but there's a heck of a lot of play in the verge arbour (bushing). Thoughts?

  • Yes there is lots of play! If I were doing a complete repair job I would bush it. The only thing the customer wanted me to do was replace the strike click, which had failed, and clean the movement. I also replaced the time mainspring, as the existing one was providing at least twice the necessary torque (it was not original). I replaced the 7/16 x 0.018 by 60 inch spring with 3/8 x 0.014 by 60". As you can see, it could get by with even a thinner spring. The strike spring is only 0.0125" thick.
