Doesn't take away the fact that both are great movies. I was born in '84 and know of this movie and constantly have this theme in my head. This movie is a masterpiece.

Of course he isn't. This is more fact than opinion, hence it is nigh impossible to compare Badlands with Natural Norn Killers.

You can watch as many movies as you want and engage in all the drama you like at college, but to compare the young Martin Sheen in Badlands to Christian "I wish I was Jack Nicholson" Slater is like comparing an Aston Martin to a Geo Metro.....

And Cissy Spacek's acting was supposed to be wooden. She was a disenfranchised, friendless, weird teenager being raised in a a god awful, boring part of the world by an unforgiving, strict as hell father. Her detached, empty way of speaking in almost a monotone was not 'bad acting', but how she was cast.
