The National Autistic Society's campaign to improve the lives of adults with autism.

The campaign has had key wins across England, Scotland and Wales since its launch in February 2008, and will launch in Northern Ireland on October 16th. These include: a major announcement from the Department of Health in England, which included funding for a study into the numbers of adults with autism; new guidance published by the Scottish Government to help meet the needs of adults with autism; and a commitment to recognise the needs of adults with autism in Wales in the Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) action plan.

The fact that we have achieved so much is testament to the fantastic level of support that there has been for the campaign. To follow-up this success, we now need to concentrate on our demands at a local level to ensure that real changes happen locally. Take action to transform the lives of adults with autism, find out more about I Exist and read the words of the champions who are supporting the campaign. www.autism.org.uk www.youtube.com/NationalAutisticSoc

  • seeing this made me very upset. I was bullied by other girls when I was at school and when I was 13 they beat me up while the boys stood by and watched. I was so ashamed. I never forgot. I'm 38 now and have two children of my own. My son also has AS and gets bullied at school. I'll do anything to protect my babies from bullying but I can't be there 24/7. I do my best to help my son build his confidence and encourage his many creative obsessions. He's only 9 and has an amazing imagination.

  • This brings back memories :(

  • I am autistic I was bulyied by teachers and kids they would shove me and poke me and shout I'm my face and thriw books at my heafd and look me in coubards in darkbess and throw food at me and I condnt wear my headphones

  • @PinkPunkyKat yeah, instead of some archetipical fad crap.

  • I would start lashing out on my bullies physicaly. I would hit, kick and bite....anything to put fear into people. I was being abled the bully and my parents eventualy just took me out to homeschool me. I would have commited sucide if they didn't.

  • I have aspergers, but lightly.

There have been boys who tried to bully me, but i'm not an easy victim.

And even socially, people don't even realise i have aspergers.

But when i see this vid, i don't know what my reaction would be. :s

  • We need to show ads like this on American channels such as Disney and Nickoloden.

  • this video makes me glad and sick, because we have charities like the NAS volunteering their spare time to help children with autism, and they get no reward for it, but it is not the video itself that sickens me, it is because these bullies, these people who give scum a bad name, have made it so bad that these videos have had to be broadcast in order for them to get it through their skulls, so next time you bully and autistic child, put yourself in their shoes, and think, how would you like it?

  • This is really upsetting, but so true, how important it is that we educate, inform and impart knowledge to all our children. Truly awful.

  • I was bullied in school and I am a "typical" person. My son has autism and this terrifies me. He struggles so much to thought of being targeted on top of it is disheartening.

  • this is actually rather accurate. but ther e was no need for subtitles, unless deaf people come.

  • i've been bully because i had autism too
