Connection of computers. Crossover. We often need to interconnect two computers (usually a laptop and desktop computer) to share files, games or to share the Internet connection. There are many ways to do this: null modem cable, I3e1394 interface, Wi-Fi wireless connection and twisted pair connection. However, the more ways there are, the more different problems and nuances we face:For example, if you want to connect computers using a null modem cable, both computers must have com-ports, and the majority of modern computers don't have it. A similar problem arises when using I3e1394, the only difference is that old computers do not have it. WI-FI requires you to purchase and setup an access point and it is not always economic. In my opinion, the fastest and the most economic solution is to connect computers using an ordinary network cable, or a twisted pair. Almost all computers are equipped with Ethernet or network adapters, and if none is built-in, you can purchase it for about 300 rubles. In addition, such a connection has several advantages: long range, high speed and noise immunity, it is easy to set up and to use.The only obstacle is that it needs a special cable, the so-called crossover. The whole secret lies in the fact that the sequence of wires (eight in total) at opposite ends of the cable is different and corresponds to the following scheme. So, we dismantle the first end of the cable according to the scheme with the following sequence of wires: white-orange, orange, white-green, blue, white-blue and green, white-brown and brown. Then we insert them into a plug and clamp them using a crimper. Now we dismantle the other end. The sequence of wires will be different. First comes white-green, green, then white-orange, blue, white-blue, orange, white-brown and brown. By analogy, we insert them into a plug and clamp with a crimper. Then we clamp the section of the network cable in accordance with the scheme. Now we have an affordable and reliable tool to connect two computers into a small network.
