The West End all the way from Oxford Street in the North all the way down to Leicester Square was a pretty grotty seedy area at its worst in the 70s. I remember what Piccadilly was like in the early 1980s, pretty nasty place. Until Leicester Square was re-built in the late 80s it was a place you definitely did not hang out in or take your family to, again seedy and pretty dodgy with pimps, drug dealers in evidence.
