No, that´s basically not true. Prussia was in comparison to Bourbon France way more liberal and enlightened. We could have get to a free society without the rivers of blood in France. What that revolution brought to us was Napoleon´s aggression and a century long hatred between our nations.

@dcgirl1998 It was same bloodshed as during American War for Independence, where British and loyalists massacred revolutionaries American colonists, and colonists massacred British and loyalists POW´s.

@KarlMartell732 French Revolution was greatest event in human history, because it was victory of enlightement ideals. Without FR, you would be still stupid, primitive and enslaved servant. Because of FR, we know ourselfs, we know we have value, we are people and we are not just king/queen puppets. Also all transatlantic civilization political systems are based on FR political system.
Btw. capitalism began in italian states, especialy Florentia and Venice, in 15th century.

It changed the western world, other civilizations were just marginally touched by it. And it is rather over-estimated concerning freedom. Only the first three years were free and democratic. Then came a phase of pre-communist terror and in the end a military dicatorship. The optimism of enlightenment was over. And Europe slidely turned away from its traditional heritage.
And capitalism´s rise is english pure and simple and started some decades before.

@dcgirl1998 Americans didn't have a revolution. They had a revolt against a colonizing exterior power (England). The French reformed *themselves* after over 1000 years of monarchy. Look how hard it is in modern America to even pass a single reform through congress. And yet, the USA is just over 200 years old. What the French did is unique in the history of the world. Change totally 1000 years of their own system overnight.

Robert Burns and his comrades regularly greeted each other and toasted the French revolution with cries of "Ca Ira!"

Vive La France! Vive L'Ecosse libre!
Ah ! ça ira, ça ira, ça ira!
Les aristocrates à la lanterne,
Ah ! ça ira, ça ira, ça ira!
Les aristocrates, on les pendra!
Et quand on les aura tous pendus,
On leur fich'ra la pelle au cul.

It brought down old (fedual) order and inaugurated new (capitalist) one. It was the most important political revolution in histoy of mankind. Evry modern ideology (liberslism, communism, socialism, nationalism,... is based upon it. Other revolutions were important for regions where they happend (like american revolution), franch revolution changed the world in long terms.
