You've already seen the 2010 Mazda 3 sedan, and now you can check out the Mazdaspeed version of the hatchback model. Our spy shooters caught this prototype of the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 as it hot-lapped the Nürburgring wearing only minimal disguise.

Like the sedan, the hatchback gets a front fascia similar to the larger Mazda 6 sedan. Larger headlights are the most obvious change, although the unique shape of the front airdam is hard to miss. It appears to draw some inspiration from Mazda's recent concept vehicles, but it may be there to disguise the true shape.

The profile doesn't appear to have changed much. A slightly reworked rear wing is clearly visible, while the greenhouse looks a little like an Audi A4, which is not a bad thing. In back, the rear window now has Mazda's signature five-point design and the rear fascia appears more aggressive than before, with large cutouts for the dual exhausts.

Given its sizable hood scoop, we're guessing the Mazdaspeed 3 will continue to use a turbocharged four-cylinder like the current model. A lack of power has never been the Mazdaspeed 3's problem, so look for most of the improvements to be geared toward improved traction. All-wheel drive has been rumored as a possible remedy, but Inside Line has learned that the car will remain front-wheel drive.

With the debut of the 2010 Mazda 3 scheduled for the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show in November, look for the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 sometime early next year, with sales beginning by the fall.

  • why do they do that to the cars when they (test) them??

  • it looks like my 2008 toyota Camry. If your planning to buy a taurus, by this one, not the older one

  • I've loved SHOs since I fist caught of glimpse of one. Theirs plenty of videos of old shos tuned to over 500hp and this new one will be easy to push with a little computer tuning to up the boost. Its gona turn some heads when you get blown by, by a 400+hp taurus lol. Can't wait to get one.

  • I want one...baaad...

  • P.S. The genius powers-to-be at Ford decided that no one would want to buy an SHO with a manual transmission. So guess what... instead they give you auto w/paddle shifters...$40K for a heavy, large, revamped (not even totally new) platform with a power plant that's only 10 hp greater than the twin turbo ecoboost plant in the 2010 Flex, is...well...whatever it is, its not competitive....Maybe if GM and Chrysler fold before this summer, all the UAW members will buy one?...it could happen...NOT!

  • SHO starts (STARTS) at $37995....Let that sink in a minute...If you want the Sport option (yes indeedy, you can get an SHO that's not considered Sporty) then you are gonna shell out over $40K for this Ford....No matter how much lipstick you put on it, ....its a Ford.

I guess that means they will not lease a single unit, because at a 25 or 26% residual value rate (that's being generous), the lease payment on one of these jewels will be between $700 and $800 a month. Crack smokin' goin' on ...

  • Sweet The best taurus ever made was the S.H.o's

  • there making the sho..theres spy shots of it. dont worry

  • When are they going to make S.H.O.'s

  • BRING BACK THE FUCKING S.H.O.!!!!!
