The venue was The Golden Torch, where manager Chris Burton had started to move away from the regular pop circuit bands, towards the more underground soul and R 'N B acts.
"Back in '68 in a sweaty club" - the opening line for Dexy;s "Geno".
For me as I recall this was a Friday night in June 1968, I was amongst the line of fresh faced mods, queuing the length of Hose Street, in Tunstall, that night changed my taste in music forever.
The band playing that evening was Geno Washington's Ram Jam Band.

This is the first posting of this song that i know of. just a phenomenal jam from back in the day that you NEVER hear on old soul radio shows. put it like this.....here in california.....the dj's seem to think that Earth Wind & Fire are the ONLY BAND that ever existed........and we miss so much good music due to their lack of research into their own damn musical roots! it's a shame is what it is.
