  • Ron Livingston's acting was SPOT ON in the last scene. I don't think anyone else could have pulled off the completely obvious and frank statement of "...but he didn't" and STILL be able to achieve such an emotional reaction from the viewer.

  • @mushroomchrisn Of course it was 1929, I can't believe I made such a stupid mistake.

But I was well aware the American president was present at Versaille, but it is my understanding that Wilson was a mollifying and mediating force, and it was the British and French (French in particular, for understandable reasons) that were 'out for blood' as it were.

Thank you for the corrections, friend.

  • @enisylo the wall street crash was in 1929 and the american president, woodrow wilson, was also at the nagotiating table during the treaty of versailles, although this is just me being pedantic and i actually agree with your points.

  • @NoMEsubsonicbullet Of all the wars fought in Europe, I think that WW2 is the only one that was not 'needless'. This is not to say that it wasn't avoidable (if the banks hadn't crashed in 1939, and if the French and British hadn't insisted upon such harsh Reparations in the Versailles treaty it may have been). But if there were any wars in the worlds history that _had_ to be fought... That was one of them.

  • @Reasonegg Let us not carry him in our memories, but love what has become of our beautiful country!!! Do not be sad for forgone days and evil times, but be glad for our bright future!!! :)

  • @davidgs84 Beethoven String Quartet in C# Minor, Opus 131, Mvt. 6

  • The most distinctive part of this scene for me is that the announcement of Hitlers death is not greeted with joy or celebration. It instead portrays war as wasteful, that there are no winners in war only losers. For the Germans it is seen in the rubble of their houses and the sorrowful music of a defeated people. For the soldiers the pointless lose of their comrades and the hardship they faced in a needless war.

  • @davidgs84 5, I believe
