In video I am self-training in Oita-ken, Japan. This footage is from early 2006, and features nothing impressive, just regular practice. However, the scenary is very nice, and waza is reflective of socho-geiko with my late karate teacher Shuseki-Shihan Tetsuhiko Asai. The choku-zuki is 100% Asai-ryu, and the clips of the kata featured have been labelled in English and with kanji.

  • Nice place to train. It's tough to tell as youtube doesn't have a slow-mo.. or at least I don't know of one. But the sound between the arms is different. It seems like the left arm takes a less direct path than the right. It looks like the fist comes up to shoulder level like a close upper cut and then extends.

It feels odd to critique your technique as it is superb and I check regularly for your posts and I always enjoyed your input on the old Karate Underground forums.

I think I should be have been facing the camera square on... However, this was my wife just filming me as I trained.

Insoafar as my karate technique is concerned, I am FAR from perfect. My blog photos reveal that, but still I am trying trying to catch the wind.

    All the best, Andre

  • Nice I train in taekwondo I'm. 2nd derggree

  • Just beautiful to watch! I went from many years of Kempo Karate to various Kung Fu styles, but when I see beautiful, controlled, and fast technique like yours, it makes me anguish for my Kempo days.

  • Where is this. I am going to oita and wondered if it is open to anyone to train here? Is there short term instruction for a beginner there?

Nice, I had my gf film some reverse punches and I do a sort of tate tsuki on my right side. I blame Empi. It's tricky for sure to pare down those imperfections but that's what keeps it interesting for me. Let me know if you ever come to Canada... Your seminar would probably kill me but I'd attend!

  • Hi André, what do you mean by:''The choku-zuki is 100% Asai-ryu'' what is the difference?

    thanks

  • Very good Andre! OSS!
