The council make a £1000 a year off each of the taxi drivers, so they're more than happy to have more. But when the taxi business becomes saturated and there is no room for everyone, they don't want to know.

I agree with the taxi drivers' complaint that the rank is too small and that coaches should be dropping off at the coach park. Their campaign and petition are the right way forward to get this changed. But parking on the single yellow line outside the Empire is illegal and - despite some taxi drivers driving as if they believe the contrary - they are not above the highway code or the law.

Furthermore to my previouse comments, I would like to add that the Council in their wisdom put on lots more Taxis over the last 5-6 years and have not jprovided enough ranks. The Abbey Rank has been there for decades, why change it?

The traffic wardens are little hitlers, my husband is a taxi driver (not on rank), and has been regularly moved on from yellow lines when waiting for an elderly female passenger, even when this lady was walking slowly down the path to get in the taxi! What is she supposed to do, run and jump in when taxi is moving?. . .

I think this video represents a true account of the current harassment from the Civil Enforcement Officers in Bath against the Taxi Drivers. Coach Drivers do occassionally park on the Taxi Rank and that does make the Taxi Drivers angry!! There are so many coaches coming into Orange Grove when there is a Coach Park!
The Taxi Drivers in Bath actually contribute to the Council through the Taxi Licencing fees and Council Tax paid. Where is the Contribution to the council from the Coach Drivers?

you spelt too incorrectly at the end of your video.

Why don't the taxi drivers use any of the other ranks around Bath? They are always empty and I can never find a cab there! I don't know why they think they are above the law - if I stop on a yellow line, the traffic warden fines me, so why should they be exempt? Good on Bath Council!
The cheek of it is, the coaches getting preferential treatment haven't paid at least £1000 each into Bath City's coffers in order to use the streets. Those coaches bring tourists and that's why the council are allowing them to break laws (such as parking rather than just dropping off on double yellows). The council decide how many taxi licenses are issued and as you heard, recently they decided there was a need for more! Yet here we clearly see drivers without enough work to keep them busy!
