Revelations: Persona was the first SMT game to be released in English, but like the previous games in the megaten (Megami Tensei) series, allowed you to talk to demons (enemies). These negotiations could ultimately lead to getting a "Spell Card", which is in Persona allows you to fuse a couple of them to create an equippable Persona... but more on that in the Velvet Room videos.
This shows a that you can both talk and fight in one encounter. First I try to recruit the Slime, which was going well (when you max out Interest, the demon gives you their Spell Card, once your level is high enough), but suddenly I couldn't keep Interest, and instead they became Fear-ful and eventually left the encounter.
So then I charmed the Pixie, and then beat them up to get some EXP, Money.
The 3D Dungeon mode in Persona was better in some ways than the SFC SMT games, but it's very possible to get lost easily and they're a lot of dead ends and boring, repetitive parts. You can see me stumbling about in the Ruins B1 dungeon for a while and then starting another encounter.
