Canada apologizes for residential school system

June 11, 2008 - Prime Minister Harper offered Canada's aboriginal peoples an official apology for the government's involvement in the Indian residential school system and its ongoing policy of forced assimilation.

Opposition leaders also offered their apologies during a special sitting of the House of Commons.

Aboriginal leaders were welcomed onto the House floor to respond to the apology.

I went to residential school, i suffered abuse but i chose to forgive before the apology was made. By forgiving my abusers, i am a free man ....I pray that the Creator God Bless Canada

@p00ner2012 I'm sure they wouldve turned out quite differently . For the better I mean . With their culture and history stronger than it is today, without the horrible influences of the Residential Schools . Pre-First Contact prolly . :/ .

@p00ner2012 He's not saying the Canadian-European culture is dominant in anyway . What he was refering to was that at the time, throughout the Residential School Era, whites viewed their culture as the dominant culture . So he's not saying that one culture is greater than the other, he's simply saying that that was how it was once percieved . Which is also sad . I sometimes think about how First Nations mightve emerged had there been no Residential Schools or racism at all .

@pear5555 If a muslim come knocking on your door then offer him pork, if a muslim refuses to remove his hat then tell him that these are your rules and he must obey. Islam and christianity are in their ways and conduct the same religion...one is more open the other more cloaked, but both are spreading hatred and their goal is and have always been...CONTROL!!!
