On December 28, 2008 prior to the jersey retirement ceremony honoring former Capital, Mike Gartner, who wore number 11, the current Capitals wore special retro jerseys during pregame warmups. Each jersey had the number 11 on them along with the current player's name. The jerseys were later autographed by Gartner and auctioned off with a portion of the proceeds going to Gartner's charity of choice.
Personally, I would like to see a return of the original classic red, white and blue jersey with the individually sewn on "CAPITALS" letters on the front. Note to Ted, would you please consider a third jersey?
Hey I was there!

New York Islanders started this tradition of wearing the retiree's name/number on their jerseys when they retired Bryan Trottier's in 2001.
