Imagine meeting a retired rear admiral, a witty and entertaining conversationalist who also happens to be the son of Admiral Perry, who started the Seabees in World War II. Imagine being swept off your feet only to be left with a broken heart, shattered expectations and an empty wallet. Imagine that you have just met a psychopath without knowing it. Are you aware that today one of every twenty-five Americans is a psychopath, a predator so devious he fools not only the unsuspecting victim but also professional therapists?
In her page-turning memoir A Dance with the Devil: A True Story of Marriage to a Psychopath, Barbara Bentley exposes the psychopathic behavior that trapped her and almost destroyed her life. It is a story of victimization: first with domestic violence by the imposter and con-artist who tried to murder her and then by the no-fault divorce law of California that supported his craziness. It is also a story of victory. Bentleys personal growth freed her from the psychopath and her passion, planning, patience and persistence propelled her to change the sacrosanct no-fault divorce law of California.

  • Always keep in mind that there are female sociopaths as well, men need to look our for this sort of thing as well.

  • @lillie1990am Good observation. Thanks for posting. Too often female predators are ignored but they can create as much havoc. Psychopaths show up not only in romantic relationships, but also in work places, schools, organizations, churches, etc..

  • I was married to a sociopath. I was married to a demon because that is what these people are. demons! Im lucky to be alive. If I exposed him at any point of his real character he would have killed me.These people are dangerous and have no remorse of how they treat anyone.

  • @bunnykit3 Thanks for taking the time to comment on sociopaths. I'm glad you escaped your encounter with one. It's by discussing their traits that we can perhaps help others not to fall into the trap.

  • @lillie1990am I remember this Case, this MAN had a long a LIFETIME of successful CONS. HE had military people believing he was the Son of a Famous General. The WIFE exposed him but it took years before People listened to her. When the Feds Finally caught up to him, trying to proscute his crimes he accidently overdosed (died) trying to fake a heart attack. He did that too her during thier marriage. This was on 60 mintues way back.

  • psychopaths can be the most beautiful people in the world too and looks do kill :)

  • @mrNoname1916 Spoken like a true sociopath...

  • I read this book and when I was done.....I realized my very best friend was EXACTLY like this man. Unbelieveable.

  • It took me 40 years to realize my best friend was a psychopath. Scarey. But she has every trait. I always wondered why she acted the way she did. To this day....I can think back on things she did and said. The path of destruction..
