Frosty evening using elder on sotol with the pressure run technique (shallow floating and pushing down hard at speed to get lots of heat) got an ember in just under 5 seconds. Outside temp was minus 4.

  • lol yea, jumping in there with dry stuff can make a difference. No offence, I can do the same thing right now with zero problems. Pick up some wet wood, or do it with the material around you and I will have respect.

  • @PartisonConfederate Yes of course it does. I can do it after dunking my kit in water but then, using a special drilling technique, it takes about 5 mins.. no where near 5 seconds. Are you going to upload a vid of a fast ember? I always like a challenge!

  • hehehe,, that is really fast, the world record with bow drill ( into flame. ) 7 1/5 seconds. 1937. i think you can beat it with your hand drill.

  • @hobbexp Thanks... maybe i should give it a go. I have amazing tinder here to try!! The materials are the key to it all!

  • well done dale that's quick!! just shows hand drill should not be overlooked as a fire by friction method in this country, bow drill is very popular but you show how hand drill can be used with less materials than the bow drill!.

    well done mate! Rich.GG

  • That's pretty quick, especially for such cold conditions.

  • You ask so what do you think. I think i hate you for making that look easy. LOL Great video brother.

  • @Nativesurvival Oh and great job bro!
