Sound of the Carceri Trailer

THE SOUND OF THE CARCERI explores the deep relationship between music and architecture through a high-tech "virtual confrontation" between Bach and his contemporary, the architect Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Using a striking visual style, director François Girard, places Yo-Yo Ma within a series of computer-generated, three-dimensional recreations of Piranesi's well-known prison etchings.

Through Yo-Yo Ma's and music producer Steven Epstein's struggle to recreate and interact with the imaginary space that Ma performs in, the film examines the complexity of illusion, of representation and reality.


THE SOUND OF THE CARCERI explore la relation entre la musique et l'architecture à travers une confrontation virtuelle de haute technologie entre Bach et son contemporain, l'architecte Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Utilisant un style visuel saisissant, le réalisateur François Girard place Yo-Yo Ma dans une série de gravures de la célèbre prison de Piranèse, générées par ordinateur et reproduites en trois dimensions.

Avec les efforts de Yo-Yo Ma et le producteur musical Steven Epstein pour recréer et interagir avec l'espace imaginaire dans lequel Ma se produit, le film se penche sur la complexité de l'illusion, la représentation et la réalité.
