Kalamış, a dream bay in İstanbul, has inspired many composers for decades. The most significant example is Münir Nurettin Selçuk, the legendary composer and singer of Turkish Classical Music:
... Yok başka yerin lütfu ne yazdan ne de kıştan
... Bir tatlı huzur almaya geldik Kalamış'tan

Along with several other beautiful districts that have a significant place in the life of Arif Serdengeçti, Kalamış was composed as an original piece within the context of an unstructured suite named "İstanbul Sweet". This concert was part of "İstanbul, 2010 European Cultural Capital" celebrations accomplished on behalf of "Bosphorus University, Peace Education Application & Research Center" which organised the project "İstanbul, A River of Culture" emphasizing the historical mosaic of several cultures that once lived, and still live, in peace and harmony in this magnificent city.

At the end of the concert, Maestro makes a lovely gesture and kindly throws flowers to the composer.
