breaks are easy to change. i would pay maybe 120$ for just parts and they can be more than that easily. i do the work myself so there's no charge there. So 250 sounds about right if i were talking All shoes drums pads and rotors, just pads fuck that maybe cost 40$ to 75$ for all four tires.
Even good ceramic pads squeak when doing a panic stop, also, excessive brake dust does it too but thats with cheap pads. Now remember, most of these techs are ASE Certified, lol
Just buy yourself some ceramic pads and do the job yourself. You'll save hundreds and you'll learn how to fix your own vehicle. Now doesn't that feel a lot better than having someone take away your hard earned money, when you can just do the job yourself and walk away with extra cash in your pocket?
This video shows how uneducated, and aggressive the news is.
Brakes squeak. If you're pressing metal to ceramic or more metal, you're going to get a squeak at a certain temperature. Ideally you want to get pads that will squeak in a temperature range outside of normal operation but that's not always the case.
And she's angry that people can get more work done than is stated in the 99.88 job? Just because the mechanic attempts to upsell doesn't mean you have to buy.
Playing Devil's advocate here, if I had a dollar for every brake inspection I've done because the customer complained of squeaking I'd be a fat wallet son of a bitch with singles.
Brakes squeak because parts are being pressed against parts, WHO THE HELL WOULD NOT EXPECT NOISE?
To stop your new pads or shoes from squeaking, ask to have your rotors or drums turned. It's that simple....the metal surface is glazed and needs recut. I've found even brand new rotors and pads to squeak on ford taurus vehicles.
They need to do a story on transmission shops. those guys rip you off more then any other. I bet if you take a new transmission in to almost any shop they will say it's bad or it needs something.
the bad thing about these cocksuckers is that they make ALL mechanics look bad. this gives the customer a bad taste in their mouth before they even come in the door, well respected shop or not. now the honest mechanic is labeled a thief and makes his job much harder
