Recorded at the NIppon budokan in Tokyo on the 6th of August, this is a demonstration of an ishujiai demonstration between juken and tanken (detached bayonet).
Sato Toru sensei (8-dan hanshi, from Fukushima) is with the juken, and Sasaki Masayohi (8-dan Kyoushi, from Osaka) is with the tanken. The juken wins by 2 doh.

I would've expected the jukendoka to have better footwork than the tankendoka... :/

@TheGinjerninja back in old times you were ordered to equip your bayonette and charge to the enemy everyone feared that moment but did it anyway. Its a close combat last resort weapon when you did not have the time to reload your gun.

@TheGinjerninja Lol, not after the original shot. Reloading those old guns took a while. You can shoot the first rank but the 2nd rank behind them will still be charging you.

Cool match.
But doesn't make sense ( not that it's suppose to... ). I'd imagine that the person with short sword will have an ABSOLUTE advantage when he's successfully deflected the bayonet, and has closed in within its reach. But the judge kept stopping the match and bring it back to the center...
What I'm saying is that I don't think they can transfer the spirit of kendo to matches like this
