Merry Christmas, everyone! This is a multitrack recording of the famous Austrian Christmas carol "Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht", recorded by Sebastian Limbach and Patrick von Massow.

About the song: "Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht" (German for "Silent Night, holy night") is a popular Christmas carol. The original lyrics of the song were written in Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria, by the priest Father Joseph Mohr and the melody was composed by the Austrian headmaster Franz Xaver Gruber. In 1859, John Freeman Young (second Bishop, Episcopal Diocese of Florida) published the English translation that is most frequently sung today. The version of the melody that is generally sung today differs slightly (particularly in the final strain) from Gruber's original, which was a sprightly, dance-like tune in 6/8 time, as opposed to the slow, meditative lullaby version generally sung today. Today, the lyrics and melody are in the public domain. [Wikipedia]

Here are the lyrics and an English translation, being very close to the original German lyrics:

1st verse:

Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht,
Silent Night, holy night,

alles schläft. Einsam wacht ...
everyone's asleep. Awake is ...

... nur das traute, hoch-heilige Paar.
... only the married, sacrosanct couple.

Holder Knabe in lockigem Haar,
Meek boy with curly hair,

schlaf' in himmlischer Ruh',
sleep in heavenly peace,

schlaf' in himmlischer Ruh'.
sleep in heavenly peace.

2nd verse:

Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht,
Silent Night, holy night,

Hirten erst kund gemacht!
Shepherds were the first to know!

Durch der Engel "Halleluja!"
Through the angel's "hallelujah!"

tönt es laut von fern und nah:
it sounds loud from far and wide:

"Christ der Retter ist da!
"Christ the savior is here!

Christ der Retter ist da!"
Christ the savior is here!"

3rd verse:

Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht,
Silent Night, holy night,

Gottes Sohn, oh wie lacht ...
Son of god, oh how there is coming ...

... Lieb', aus Deinem göttlichen Mund,
... love, out of your godly mouth,

da uns schlägt die rettende Stund',
for the rescuing hour is striking us,

Christ in Deiner Geburt!
Christ, through your birth!

Christ in Deiner Geburt!
Christ, through your birth!

  • Nice collab with some interesting video editing, too.

I didn't know that this song was originally a sprightly, dance-like tune!!

  • @CarlyCarlyW Hey Paul, good to hear from you, again! Thanks, I'm glad you like our video!

Yes, there is always something to learn from the video descriptions from Julien and me and you can keep that knowledge, take it home and put it on your bookshelf to enjoy it every day ;).

  • Tolle Arbeit!

  • Great job Patrick, both on the singing and the video editing. You've made such progress since I met you, wow. Keep it up!

  • @trudbol Thanks a lot for your support! And also for your help in creating this video!

  • I just sang this last night

  • @Bitrixa ¡Gracias! It's nice to be missed ;). About more Christmas songs from me: Probably there won't be any this year, but maybe next year.

  • Good work Patrick! It's good to have you back on youtube from time to time! More Christmas songs coming? :D

  • @Partyburner I went back and looked at all of your previous videos that I have to see why you looked different to me. This is the first time I have seen you without your headphones or a hat. Sorry, I just mistook it for a new haircut. Anyway I really liked your Stille Nacht. It was your best solo so far to my ears. And you looked younger to my eyes. Keep up the good work.
