Heath Newburn, from IBM, speaks about the importance of having a strong software automation solution in place. Automation is probably one of the most important concepts to IT today. The reason? Problems come from change. To address this, IT need solutions that will enable them to very quickly get to underlying root cause of the problem and fully drive automation across the enterprise.

The three tenets of Tivoli are visibility, control, and automation, automation being probably one of the most important concepts to our operations customers. The reason why is that we know that problems come from change. IDC has said more than 80% of problems in an IT environment come from change.

Something goes wrong, we call everybody together into a room and first we blame the Tivoli guys, then we blame the network guys, then we blame the operating system guys, then the application guys, and everybody is spending all their time in the background trying to figure out who made the last change, that really is the core of the problem

To address these challenges, we have IBM Tivoli OMNIbus and Network Manager 8.2. This allows operations to have the very best of event management and network management capabilities in a single offering that allows you to very quickly get to root cause analysis, drive automation across the enterprise, and have the single largest breadth of coverage of technology in the industry.

A dynamic infrastructure obviously doesnt exist without the infrastructure. And the tool that you need to manage that infrastructure is IBM Tivoli OMNIbus and Network Manager, because no matter how complex the problem, no matter how big it is, no matter how small it is, the best way to be able to understand and get to root cause in that is IBM Tivoli OMNIbus and Network Manager.

To use one of the most trite phrases ever, time is money. But to the business, it truly is. As operations team, one of the major challenges you have is how are you doing? How are you improving day to day? Well, one of the key measurements you can use is, meantime to resolution or MTTR. So whenever youre chasing a problem, that downtime can be extremely expensive. We know it can run in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, for example, our financial customers. But by being able to very quickly get to the underlying root cause of the problem, having that context that Tivoli creates and allows you to get to the real root cause -- that is saving money. Thats saving time and thats really what helps you drive value to the business.
