I have not played 3.5, but I have seen your video on the magic classes in 3.5 and they look boring and like "easy mode"

You know... I don't think it's so much that 4e sucks.. in fact, updating an amazing game to make it easier to approach and more fun to play is fantastic, but I do have some things I wish were a little different... but something not real technical? Would be that Dragons aren't nearly as powerful. I dunno about anyone else, but I've always felt a dragon is suppose to be OP..so OP that you NEED a great deal of power, tactics, and luck to live through it...regardless, DnD will always improve in time

I think another reason some people prefer 4th edition is that it is easier to pick up and that is not an insult but a compliment. Personally, I still prefer 3.5 but that's because it has been out a longer while 4e has yet to make a psionics handbook. Deadlands: Lost Colony is another good one in my opinion but that might be because my friend Rico did a lot of the artwork.

Here is my thing, people say you cant role play in 4th ed. I ran a game on Friday night and I was playing a role. Nowhere does 4th edition eliminate the ability to play a role. I encourage my players to get into character when I run the game. Instead of just rolling diplomacy, come up with something that sounds good to say and use the roll to see if your words actually worked. I like 4th and I will keep on playing it. Say what you will, but I like it.

Two years later all we're hearing is that 4th edition is biting it in sales, previously announced books are being pulled from production, WOTC is in serious trouble with their corporate owners, and 5th edition is already on the horizon. Meanwhile Pathfinder AKA 3.5 edition is doing very well.

4e is more popular because
1) It's being compared to WoW by critics, making the youth interested
2) The books look flashier and the products look nicer
3) It's incredibly easy and fool-proof, so the retarded youth can get into the game.
I play 3.5 and AD&D 2nd edition, and I can say that these are greater than 4th because, well, 4th seems to youth friendly and I like the RPing aspect in RPGs. If I wanted to play a wargame, I'd play Advanced Risk.

I think that people label 4E as being similar to WoW because 4E makes the "roles" (defender, controller, etc.) explicit like WoW does, and 4E has powers for every class.
But really, even in 3E you had a role based on your class...nothing has really changed other than the fact that they pointed it out. Also, as you pointed out in your previous review, non-magic users were extremely boring in 3E...props to WotC for finally making them interesting.

good video
You, sir, are an oasis of truth and fact in this vast desert of close-mindedness and ignorance towards 4th edition. Keep up the good work and bring more DM guides love listening to those.

@monophos Thank you so much, open-mindedness is certainly something that I can say I promote.
