http://www.beadaholique.com/?CAWELAID=975382778 - In this video, learn how to make a hook and eye clasp using 18 gauge wire which attaches to your jewelry piece via a wrapped wire loop on each half of the clasp. This versatile clasp is sleek enough for modern pieces yet has enough decorative flourish for more intricate designs.
@Beadaholique The key to good jewelry design is practice - your skills will develop with the more practice you have and even your sense of balance, color coordination, and design will improve with the more you do - Julie
@Beadaholique There are colleges out there which do teach jewelry design, however, I would venture to say that most jewelry designers (myself included) did not study jewelry design specifically in college. Instead I took classes at conventions/stores/studios, learned from friends, watched YouTube videos, followed project how to's, read books on jewelry making, etc. In a nutshell, most of the learning is self-taught and having the internet makes learning so much easier.
@MissKuriosity Thanks for the compliment! I love making jewelry and I completely encourage you to start on your path! It's such a fun business. Every jewelry designer follows a different path to get to where they are - and the path never ends, we are all still learning. My personal path actually started as a dollhouse miniature maker, then purse maker and screen printer, and then jewelry designer.
