Watch Karen Bates of Apple Farm in Mendocino County, CA, and her brother John Bates, share their father's recipe on how to cook mashed potatoes for a delicious Thanksgiving dinner.
To begin cooking the mashed potatoes, first peel russet potatoes and slice them. Add salt, garlic cloves, and bay leaves for a little flavor. Cook the potatoes till they are tender. Take some butter and cream in another pan, and heat it.
Strain the potatoes and discard the bay leaves. Keep the excess water from the cooked potatoes in reserve. Mash and beat the potatoes dry. To these mashed potatoes, add the buttery cream mix. Add some pepper. Now, add the reserve potato water for a robust potato flavor. With these simple steps on how to cook mashed potatoes, you can bring a homey and scrumptious touch to your Thanksgiving dinner.

@effyleven I usually just use a bit of butter (as much as normally used on two breads) and some nutmeg. Less then a teaspoon of salt ant half a cup of milk. Tastes awesome!

@wenzelsopinion Yeah... a dangerous amount of salt. and cream, AND butter. Hmmm... these mashed potatoes have "heart attack" written all over 'em.
