Jaipur and Ridan stage a battle of epic proportions; a wire-to-wire duel for the ages.
The great Fred "Cappy" Capossela with the call.

  • The horse that finishes 3rd was probably the best horse in the race and wins if not for losing some serious momentum the last eighth mile when those horses came out on him.

  • Military Plume's momentum was slowed somewhat, but it's tough to say whether he would have caught up or not. You make a good point though; the speed duel between the front two likely could have brought them back to him had he not been forced out into the track.

    Thanks for the comments.

  • Who finished 3rd in this race?

  • It was Military Plume, a son of the great Princequillo.

  • The most freakish horse race of all time. You will never see a race like this again. The closest was the 1978 Belmont. Thank you for posting it.

  • Well said. This race is one of the best battles in racing history, without question.

    Thank you for the comments.

  • @cloudtailforever just like the personal ensign vs winning colors one! that one was like OHMYGOSH!

  • Not to take anything away from the race but it was great to hear Fred Capossela again!!

  • How great is this...Cappy was soooo good to listen too. a classic rivalry

  • Pretty good field with Jaipur & Ridan duking it out for a mile and a quarter! Smart & Cicada were pretty good horses too. Manny Ycaza was on Ridan while the Shoe was on Jaipur. The fractions were 23 & 1/5, 47 & 2/5, 1:11, 1:35 & 2/5 and 2:01 & 3/5 at the finish equaling the track record. One of the alltime classic races. Thanks for posting!!!
