6 hours? who cares... It could be 8 hours and just be that much more beauty. (Most operas (even the ones I really like!) I get sleepy the first hour or so because the 'good' stuff is often held up til the last half. There is not a dull minute, as far as I'm concerned, in the this entire 6 hours. Wagner is absolutely riveting from minute one til the proverbial fat lady sings).

@scidem Saw it last monday on screen in Antwerp Metropolis. It's great, amazing. 6 hours maybe, but every second is a miracle.. The singing, the acting.... I hope they make a DVD!

Saw the HD Simulcast yesterday. Laughed out loud when Siegfried gave the Rhinemaidens a goofy grin and waved at them. JHM is so cute.

Saw this last night and it made my spine tingle in places. I was thrilled that Hans Peter Konig got a standing ovation for his performance, which was flawless. I think he was somewhat overwhelmed by the rapturous applause he received.
Eric Owens was also brilliant as Alberich, although unfortunately not for long enough.
I thought Jay Hunter Morris started to relax a bit more than he should have done towards the end, but brilliant performance from him and Voigt nonetheless.

@BlackAcesBlackEights Many sporting events are nearly as long, plus you have poker games, time spent in online gaming, time spent on Facebook etc. Opera is good for the mind and soul!

Btw, saw it at the met today. It isn't 6 hours. It's 5:45... Including TWO over- half hour intermissions. Actual opera time? 4 and a half hours. 6 hours = lie.
Really hate how people complain about it being 6 hours. Yes, Wagnerian operas are long, but a ton of people see them anyway because they're GREAT.
