Bit of trivia: The Atlanta Flames' move to Calgary was the only instance in the history of the four major sports when an American-based team relocated to Canada.

Wow, what a game hockey used to be.. Very flashy goaltending by Palmateer, a really good showman and goalie as well it seems. But judging by old games like these, it was no wonder they scored so many goals back, defense was plain terrible. Still, that was way better than the New Jersey -rat trap style of play. Thanks for the great video!

@5inthehole Yeah, but the most beautiful thing is Calgary is the only visiting team to ever win and parade the cup around in the Montreal Forum. My friend described it like "a temple that was being desecrated." Lol.

@KosaiAvonej Just think of it this way; 9 years after they left, the Flames won a Stanley Cup. It's just sad it didn't happen in Atlanta.

At times, Mike Palmeteer could play goal like with the best of them but at other times just seemed to look disinterested. I'm sure playing for a so-so Leafs team didn't help eventhough he had a good defenseman in front of him in Salming. Still, he played his heart out for The Maple Leafs and was exciting to watch.

Thank you Atlanta for giving us two hockey teams and proving Bettman's theory of NHL marketability in southern states is baseless folly.

@HerculesMays Pathetic

Love the Leafs jerseys from this era! Mike Palmateer owned a restaurant for years in my hometown. Think he eventually got into real estate. He was great in net for the Buds.

Those flames jerseys are nice. How come jerseys are so plain now?

@Lava1964 Accept with the Thrashers they also moved up north

Anyone kniow; has Calgary ever wore the old Atlanta Flames jersey as a special jersey? The do have the little "A" for the assistant captains.
