O'k., thanks, I missed some reasons, severe ground problems has never been a problem for me, so it escaped my mind. There is another simple reason folks might do the pot thing, animals, some people don't want 'em peeing on or near the crops. Thanks, good answer, my flaw.

Where I live in south Florida it's either raised beds or pots. First reason is I use weed and feed fertilizer/weed killer on my lawn so I don't want to eat that crap. Second reason is when you dig or should I say try to dig in my back yard you instantly hit coral rock and if you can bust through that it turns to white sand, not very productive for growing vegetables. Let me add that there are some areas very near me that are great for growing in the ground. My area is just not one of them.

I do not understand the fascinating with growing "in pots", less, of course, you haven't any ground to work with, such as, an apartment. Oh, I guest living in an rental place of some sort would be another reason..
Are people like this, "overly citified", is that it?
