And the term british is a geographical grouping, which means that as long as you are on the british mainland you are in Britain - it was that way before the union.

The freeing of the Lockerbie bomber in exchange for a BP oil deal with Libya, and quiet approval by the Obama administration (he recieved more campaign money from BP than any other US candidate in history), and blaming Scotland for the bomber's release, was a fine example of Scotland being made the scapegoat for London politics, the USA news media blames Scotland, not London, even when Jack Straw admitted the deal.
