Koda, 20-month-old Boxer, in a Rally show competition in Kalamazoo, Michigan on 5/29/10. He received a score of 87 out of 100, sixth place of 16 dogs entered and earned the second leg towards his Rally Novice title (70 points are required to qualify). Such a good boy! At the beginning when we did a couple of exercises and then the judge made us start over, it was because Koda had two collars on and only one is allowed, which I didn't know, so I had to remove one. 10 of the points off were completely handler error, for me pushing him into a sit position when he was excited after the removal of his other collar and I was trying to get him settled down, not knowing judging could start before the Start sign. No touching the dog is allowed. Then I touched him again later, patting him on the head and saying good boy after he sat, completely out of habit and I knew the second my hand made contact with him that I'd messed up. I whistled to get his attention once too, which isn't allowed, something else i didn't know. Each of those errors knocked three points off his score, and another one point was deducted because we passed the finish sign on the right side instead of the left like we were supposed to.
