Shyam Benegal was truly a genius. Just look how he incorporates Shabana Azmi full of anger and feeling annoyed and irritated while she sneaks a moment to check herself out in the mirror before theatrically storming off. Benegal mastered the art of "laughing at your own self" decades before anyone else in Bollywood did.
