Medical Informatics: Modernizing the registration of patients in Cameroon

The joint conference on Cameroon and Africa the role of medical informatics in the management of patients began Monday, November 28, 2011 in Aurelia palace in Yaounde, the Cameroonian capital. The work covers the African 7th Annual Conference, and the third annual conference in Cameroon. In order to implement an effective strategic plan, policy makers in the health sector must have identifiable data that are not always present in the immediate future. On the other hand, patients may not have access to the best specialists to benefit from their care. Therefore, all the actors of the health sector need to bridge the technology gap. Experiences of telemedicine and electronic medical records have shown a definite improvement in the management of some patients reported that Dr. Ghislain Kouematchoua, Vice President of the Cameroonian society of medical informatics. The electronic patient record is now playing an increasing role in the coordination of their medical care in hospitals and across health systems, said for his part Prof. Antoine Geissbuhler, Dean of Faculties E-health and telemedicine in Switzerland and coordinator of RAFT, the network of French-speaking Africa for Telemedicine.

Throughout the workshop discussions, we note that the medical record has evolved to become more than a data base of patients, but an instrument of therapeutic decision-making situations in the fight against disease. First, based on a set of texts and other medical reports, the computerization of medical records now includes other countries, images and videos. It appeared that this can lead to the goals of care quality. The patient is monitored deeper and you can easily find the interaction went wrong or went wrong. The option also allows expectations in terms of efficiency. Makers have more therapeutic elements for understanding the evolution of the disease, although it can take up to 10 years for an overview of relevant. According to experts, the implementation of this system is however not simple. Many failures have been recorded and the willingness of users is stronger than anything. Other reservations were also expressed during discussions with the transfer of the ethics of medical confidentiality to a server. The solutions used are sophisticated, although free. The risk of stroke remains limited, argued a technician close to the area. For participants, a framework law would be welcome, to regulate an industry that took shape gradually in Cameroon.
