If that young man could have known what his life would be like in years to come. Unbelievable fame, adopting children and the tragedy he would go through. Yet he has stayed true to his faith and shown people he does know God for WHo He really is.

I believe this song was on his "Real Life Conversations" album which came out in 1988. Not exactly sure of the timeline of scandals.

Does anyone think this song was written in the wake of the Bakker/Swaggart televangelism scandals of the late 1980s?

Yes it was about the same time. I remember this song after. Oddly enough I went to Swaggarts School during the scandal. lol. The one thing that people have been using that line about "too many hypocrites" before the scandals. That is sometimes a sad reflection some Christians. Like the into to dc talks "what if i stumble". People who follow Jesus with thier lips but deny him by thier lifestyle. Let us judge everything that we do by God's standard. Is it pleasing and reflecting Him. Amen?
