  • Looks awesome! Is this a real movie that's going to be coming out?

  • Yup, film is out on DVD. Checkout Amazon. Really superb battle action, great acting, and of course, incredible writing from the master, Ambrose Bierce!

  • I agree that the DVD menu pages are not great, but my comments were about the MOVIE, not about the poor choice of graphics for the DVD menus! THE FILM ITSELF IS FANTASTIC, so who cares about the DVD menus? I don't know about you fellers, but I tend to skip right past the menus anyway, and get to the heart of the program!

  • Actually, three of the nation's top Civil War historians were engaged as consultants on this film, which they describe as the "ONLY, FULLY AUTHENTIC RECREATION OF PROPER WEAPONRY, UNIFORMS, PROCEDURES AND TERMINOLOGY IN THE PAST TEN YEARS OF CIVIL WAR THEMED MOVIES." The other comments from csfilmsguy above also make virtually no sense whatsoever.

  • Full feature now available on DVD at AMAZON.COM, WALMART.COM and at Wal-Mart stores nationally!!!

  • @ManicStreetStevO It was made into a short film in 1962. I agree more attention needs to be paid to Bierce's works.

  • For those of you who have not read any of Bierce's stories, do yourselves a favor and read them! His Civil War stories are incredible - but coldly realistic. The reason for this is Bierce fought in some of the bloodiest campaigns of the war, nearly losing his life several times. This certainly left an indelible impression of war in his mind: no glamoror glory, just the cruel waste of human life.

  • Hey, Vivian Schilling! She was on MST3K!

  • A.Bierce is my favorite writer. I often re-reading his storys. But he haven't enouch fame in my country. It's not easy task to faind his books here. Only from e-net!

  • I live near Meigs County, Ohio the birthplace of Ambrose Bierce. I agree with waterloo2you below that Chickamauga is one of his greatest stories along with " A Horseman in the Sky" (and of course An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge and Parker Addison, philosopher). This man does not receive the recognition he deserves. The stories above are great antiwar stories along the lines of Catch 22 and Johnny get your gun.

  • Check out the Ambrose Bierce boyhood home here in Elkhart,IN. It's a historycal mark here for his masterpieces. Ambrose Bierce was the second to enlist in Elkharts Army volunteers. Can't wait to see the movie.

  • I agree with thekindone: Parker Adderson, Philospher is one of the best. But all of Bierce's Civil War stories are excellent. Since he was an actual Civil War veteran (in fact he fought in some of its blooiest conflicts), his stories are completely cold and realistic. There are no heroes, just victims: the protagonists always experience some form of loss - their own lives or their loved ones. Also, watch "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" (it's available on YouTube in 3 parts).

  • The trailor says it contains three stories. "Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge" is obviously one of them, but what are the other two? "Chickamuaga" is his greatest and most shocking short story, so I would be its not included in this story.

  • Yeah you should read "Tales of soldiers and civilians"

  • Beat: Thanks :)
