"Our Heart is Burnt Pitch Black" tells the story of Özlem Şahin, one of 33 victims, who were burnt to death with the spits of Allahu Akbar in Madımak, Sivas...
On 4th July, 1993, in Sivas, Turkey, the hotel where members of Alevi belief and philosophy took shelter was arsoned by a radical religious group who called themselves "muslims"; as a result, 33 intellectuals were massacred.
This movie is based on the story of Özlem Şahin who lost her life in this massacre which is one of the darkest marks in Turkish history.
Özlem Şahin was born in Sivas in 1976. She was murdered, burnt to death in Madımak, Sivas when she was 17. She was a high school student when she lost her life. She was in the group of Semah performance in Pir Sultan Festivals.

July arrived with grey clouds. Fire was never ashamed of himself since it had formed. Sivas was burning and it was snowing in Ankara in that hot July day; however, it couldn't cool down Ankara, and on alive broadcast humanity was being burnt...
Once a black hidden storm appeared, insidioulsy, it blew me away from you and blew me away from myself... "I left an Ankara which was wistful upon my abandonment and I left a pair of green eyes which lost hope..."
Mom, missing you was on the way of my pain when the death with the cries of Allahu Akbar caught my soul which was whirling Semah with the dance of fire... Yet, I would have kisses ready for your mornings... I would have soft innocent touches on your skin... And I would have a jolly heart for the times that I put my head on your lap...
Which letter, which line, who tells us to us? Even if Zulfikar got off, could it be on time to find the remedy of the heart
hidden to rest? Come closer, while the streets of Sivas are filled with screams, its echo sounded in black Ankara from Kızılırmak. I feel as cold as the trees dressed with snow. Teacher, please hold my hands tightly to let me reach the bravery of a wildflower.
