In the 1970s and 80s, Katrina Gail Phillips was an outrageous drag performer at the now-gone ... but legendary ... College Cue Club in Norfolk, Virginia. Katrina specialized in outlandish comedy performances, making no attempt to be beautiful, only wanting to entertain and make people laugh. Anyone lucky enough to witness one of her outlandish comedy offerings will attest that she was a truly unique performer who had to be SEEN to be BELIEVED!

This is the only known video of Katrina in action, from the early days of amateur video cameras. It is Katrina's most memorable and oft-repeated performance, "Champagne Taste", sung by Eartha Kitt. Katrina performed it hundreds of times over the years ... on ROLLER SKATES!

Even though Katrina is now gone, thanks to YouTube, she will NEVER be forgotten.

  • God how I miss him, he taught me everything about life and drag. The dress he is wearing in this video, I now have, after her passed away it was given to me. I was known as Tonya Perry in those days. I sure do miss those days at the Cue Club, The Oar House, but especially The Late Show.

  • Notice the guy in the front row that Katrina runs into and grabs ... he runs away. I wonder if he ran out of the club, too, never to be seen or heard from again.

  • Katrina's most popular and most-requested number was "Harper Valley PTA". In the 1970's, four-letter cuss words were forbidden by the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, and Cue Club owner Tony Pritchard had his hands full trying to keep Katrina from slinging out her colorful expletives

  • Really hilarious entertainer. Was Mistress of ceremonies for drag shows at the Oar House. Her dish with the audience was priceless. If I'm not mistaken, he died in his sleep of heart failure and was not found for several days. Very sad. A real character who wasn't afraid to be who he/she was.

  • very cool...:)
