NOTE: There seems to be a lot of confusion about the timeline for the DMC games. I have written it down below along with a couple of references.

@animelover2ne1 Published? No they were published in numerical order of course :P. However the order in which the story takes place is DMC3, DMC1, DMC4 & DMC2.

can someone tell me which story goes in order..im kinda confused...is it DMC5 , DMC 2, DMC 4 , DMC1 ?....im sorry about this but i need some help here

@OptimosCrime It's DMC3, DMC1, DMC4, DMC2. (This list only consists of the currently released games. DMC5 will take place before DMC3.) Check out the description of this video, I have the DMC timeline written down with a couple of sources.

@TheVastWhiteReshiram Except for the last part, that sounds about right. Vergil has a big part in DMC3, which is set before DMC1. In DMC3 (The twins are both approx 19), Dante talked about how it was nearly a year since both himself and Vergil last met. So the earliest meeting that they had since Vergil's disappearance as a child, that we currently know of, was approx 1 year before DMC3.

@RunescapesATrueGamer just to clear it, it was shortly after his 8th birthday that his mother died after his mother gave dante and vergil half of the Perfect Amulets and shortly after Sparda died, eva died from demons sent by mundus and vergil and dante got seperated and dante beleived that vergil died but we all now he didnt until DMC1

@CloudDragon7 The Alastor is an electric sword. The Rebellion does not have an elemental power. Also, the design of both swords is very different. The Alastor has a face of a creature appearing to eat the blade. The Rebellion has a skull facing outward (Not eating the blade). We don't really know how old Dante was when his mother (Eva) died. All we know is that he "lost a mother and a brother to evil 20 ago", according to Trish. This doesn't really mean that they died at that time.

@CloudDragon7 At the moment, the new game is not DMC5, but is instead referred as DmC. The sword he has in DmC is supposedly the Rebellion (It doesn't look like the DMC3 version though). It's hard to tell weather or not DmC is even canon to the other 4 games as the developer has called it a rebirth/reboot. However, when they say "reboot" in interviews, it doesn't sound like a traditional series reboot. We just have to wait for a story trailer of DmC to know for sure :P

@RunescapesATrueGamer it's convfusing though since the face that Dante was only six or so when his mother died and his brother also pressumed dead as well. Yet Virgil comes back in DMC, so you figure Nelo Angelo is actually a fals Virgil since the fact that Eva is an identical devil clone of Dante's mother. Mundus could have simply forged and Devil version of virgil. I see the point of how Dante is younger, though Alastor and Rebellion basically share the same traits.
