PART ONE (of two)
In his film clip from 1964 we see the original opening for the local Memphis show Fantastic Features. Then the show's host, Memphis' favorite vampire and "Monster Of Ceremonies", Sivad, takes us on a tour of the programming for the coming season on WHBQ-TV 13 in Memphis, Tennessee.

Here in part one Sivad wisecracks with the offscreen voice of "his uncle" and slips in a few of the corny jokes he was so well known for. PLEASE POST YOUR SIVAD MEMORIES IN THE COMMENTS!

NOTE: MemphisMemories would like to thank Harvey and Chet for finding this rare classic on a VHS tape at a flea market and making it available so it can be shared with everyone.

  • I think I still have this on tape. I saw this back in 1990. When RKO sold WHBQ, the folks there put together a goodbye to the RKO days tape. This was on there with a whole bunch of other WHBQ stuff. TV was a different business back then. And you can't beat a vampire doing Lugosi with a Southern accent!

  • Wow... Please consider putting some of those clips on YouTube if you can. There's tons of old timers who would really appreciate it... Me for one! :)

    Thanks for writing.

  • WOW! Sivad used to scare the HELL outta me as a kid! I'm getting chill bumps right now as if I were 3 years old again! RIP: Watson Davis!

  • I used to scream and hide my face every time I heard that music and saw Sivad. Even now that I am in my 40's, the music still scares me. :)

  • @newsboyarizona I have the videotape too! There is a mock news story about Mother Theresa and WHBQ Anchorman, Ed Craig, not being in the same place at the same time...because they are ONE IN THE SAME! Funny stuff! . Some Happy Hal and Talent Party clips. Dave Brown and Charlie B. Watson's last newscasts on WHBQ. A takepff on the Eyewitness News called EYEWINGIT. Tons of cool stuff on the tape 50s, 60s, 70s..up to the mid 80s.. What a RICH time in Memphis television history.

  • This show must have really got in a lot of kids mind...a big corp's dream today. He used to scare the hell out of me and my siter...we could not wait untill he came on....and then would run around and around in the house screaming like hell.... LOL. never forgot the show...thanks to the net...a small memory can be relived. and as I have gotten older..I can see why ,," He's One Ugly Mutha Fucka" arnold schwartzeneggar. LOL the dusk dawn between night and day adds a scary element too l

  • I went to the same church as Sivad...Mr. Davis....as a child in Clarendon

  • I remember Sivad and Fantastic Features! Guess you had to be in range of Memphis TV.

  • WHAT THE??? unreal. I used to get freaked out by this as a wee little one. I grew up in memphis and had totally forgotten about this. Great to see it now.

  • Why can't they bring this back? "Son of Sivad". It could work!

  • @newsboyarizona. Have you posted any new Sivad tapes. Just really curious.

  • i herd that they used the same tape for 9 years. so there are not many of his shows left.......I herd that on the local news here in memphis TN.
