"Sarge", drum set dept. and store manager at Rhythm Traders in Portland, Oregon shows you how to do the initial tuning on an snare drum. Lots of great information here!

  • While you will always get many opinions, I believe bottom snare head should NEVER be higher than Top. It will always give you more "Ring" from your snare. Many repairs I see come in also have snare wires way too tight and that chokes off the bottom head and creates even more "ring". If you prefer the open ring, just run an Evans G1 or the old standby Remo Coated Ambassador and do a slight choke with a single MOONGEL.

    Thanks For Asking---Sarge
