Great video, am starting my career in garbage truck driving and trying to learn as much as i can to what i will be facing. I got all the infractions.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. Does the same rules apply to the flasher strobe lights on a McNeilus? What landfill was that, Puente Hills? This is a good video, but it's kinda funny. WM is so big on safety and rules and such, and yet, they were suspended from doing any trash in CT till next year in 2007. The company that took over all of the WM trucks in my area said they were so run down that they sold all of them.

LOL, i hope he realises they broke most of the rules making this video LOL

Yeah there's truth to the part about the bag particularly, I've cut myself before from lifting bags with a hand on the bottom + no gloves, happened to be broken glass there...and I'm not even a trash collector!! Around here, most of the ASL drivers won't wear gloves (this isn't WM btw) but they will if they even get out of the truck, maybe just to move a cart or something. Great video btw, enjoyed it and thanks for sharing it with youtube!!

That's too bad, I'd really like to see how you all would go about making one for rearload... I bet it would have been very interesting and informative.
If you make the ones for frontload and roll-off, you'll have to post them. Actually... I'm gonna send you a video you should watch... (it'll definitely inspire you for a frontload video)
Why does it matter if the strobe lights are on?

@Mike3141981 I think you are refering to the time when the driver is driving down a highway (or county road) without any intention of servicing a customer. Strobe lights should only be used when servicing customers. Thanks for the question.

Again, another great video! Where in Norcal?? I'm a bit confused.... what is the 3 points of contact rule?
r6man2 1 year ago
@r6man2 Woodland, Ca, near Sacramento. 3 points of contact: when climbing, entering a vehicle, etc, you must always have 3 points of contact (i.e. two hands holding on and on foot on a step, or one hand holding on and two feet on something solid.) I idea is to prevent slips and misteps. I twisted an ankle pretty badly a long time ago, when I stepped backward out of my truck and let go of the handholds before being completely on the ground. 3 points of contact would have prevented this.

You all need to make one of these for rearload if you have any of those trucks at your shop. This style of safety video is definitely more interesting than the old monotone ones I saw a couple years back.

We do not have any rear loaders at our shop. But hopefully in the future we will do more videos with other types of trucks (i.e. roll-off, front loader).
