Bangour Village Hospital was a psychiatric hospital located west of Dechmont in West Lothian, Scotland. There was then a general hospital building created so it became Bangour Village Hospital. It was officially opened in October 1906, although the first patients had been admitted in June 1904. The hospital closed in 2004. The hospital was modelled on the Alt Scherbitz asylum of the 1870s, near Leipzig in Germany.

The closed hospital was used as a filming location for the 2005 film The Jacket, starring Keira Knightley and Adrian Brody.

  • Why was it abandoned? Why is this hospital so special/important?

*Sorry: don't know much 'bout Scotland [which is where I'm guessing this is]. :(

  • @4Ever4Him1 It was abandoned because a hospital was built closer to the nearest town. It is in Scotland and it's just another place that has closed that was once used and full of people which makes it an important part of our social history which no doubt will be destroyed over time and left only to be seen in pictures and videos.

  • Hi. You send me links to your videos. Can't believe Bangour Hospital is one of them. I was born there in 1968. Was just as is in the video.

  • @maumau1968 Yeah there are quite a few people who have ties to Bangour, by any chance do you have any old pictures of the place? It would be fascinating to see them.

  • i dont think so and if i did they would be on crappy cameras on phones but i have millions of pictures

  • @theouijaperson You should share them on the facebook page I think people would enjoy seeing them! :)
